Law360 has published the article “The Emerging Fall Fiscal Cliff,” written by Akin Gump public law and policy partners Robert Leonard, Jeffrey McMillen and Arshi Siddiqui; senior counsel Jayne Fitzgerald; and senior public policy specialist Matthew Thomas.

The article discusses the congressional agenda this fall, which includes various tax and budget issues. They range from “the need to fund the government for fiscal year 2016 to a required increase in the federal debt ceiling to avoid an unprecedented and catastrophic default on the nation’s debt.” The authors write that the challenges confronting Congress are very similar to the 2012-13 debate over the so-called fiscal cliff, which took “an extended period of time and difficult negotiations to resolve.”
