Akin Gump entertainment partner Vanessa Roman has been quoted by Los Angeles Times in the article “Five things that have changed in Hollywood since the Weinstein case broke.” The article looks at how Hollywood has evolved since sexual assault and rape allegations against Harvey Weinstein were revealed in late 2017.

Among the changes, according to the Times, is that studios have become more cautious when hiring directors and actors who may have a history of offenses. In addition, distributors and streaming services have increasingly placed “morality clauses” in contracts, which allow them to back out of projects if people involved are exposed for wrongdoing.

Roman said those clauses can be very broad: “The first drafts we’re seeing could cover everyone from the lead actor to the makeup artists.”
