Akin Gump public law and policy partner Martha Kendrick was quoted by CQ’s Healthbeat News for its article “CMS Sets Stage to Judge Care Given After Hospital Stays.”

The article discusses the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ post-acute care comparison framework, which Congress mandated and the agency recently finalized, to judge quality of service in a variety of treatment settings for the elderly and disabled recovering from illnesses and injuries. According to the article, controversial measures, including evaluation of planning to improve daily life functions, remain in the framework even after criticism from trade groups.

Kendrick said that CMS officials and post-acute care organizations will continue to discuss the best measure to judge care delivered at different sites, with future rules likely to revise and tweak the measures. She noted, “This arena is evolving.”
