Akin Gump public law and policy partner Arshi Siddiqui was quoted in the Bloomberg Government article “Probes, Possible Infrastructure Deal: What to Watch in the 116th,” which looks at what legislative actions Congress might pursue when Democrats take control of the House of Representatives next year.
The article reports that Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, who could become speaker again, said her party is ready to push its own priorities after several years in the minority, but with Republicans expanding their majority in the Senate, there could be more gridlock. Siddiqui, a former Pelosi aide, said the opportunity to reach any legislative deals will be limited.
“That window will be at the beginning of the year — probably until July or August there will be an opportunity for forward movement and then we’ll likely see a very robust presidential campaign on both sides,” said Siddiqui.
Siddiqui was also quoted by the Financial Times in “Pelosi poised to lead the opposition to Trump,” which reports on the prospects for the relationship between Pelosi and President Trump, should she regain the speakership. Siddiqui is confident in Pelosi.
“I’ve lost count of the number of times people have counted Nancy Pelosi out and she just continues to deliver time and time again,” said Siddiqui.
