Akin Gump corporate partner Michael Joyce and associate Euan Strachan have authored the article “An emerging economy,” which ran in the July 2020 issue of Petroleum Review, published by the Energy Institute. The article looks at the impact of recent events on the hydrogen economy and provides an update on some key developments.

Hydrogen “is gaining prominence as a key element in the future global energy mix,” the authors write. While the United States is a “leading player,” they say, Asia and Japan are also pressing ahead with their own “hydrogen revolution.”

The article outlines some recent developments from around the world affecting hydrogen. It also discusses the impact of COVID-19 as well as that of the oil price war—both of which, the authors say, “are expected to have a “detrimental impact for the foreseeable future.”
