Michelle Reed Recognized by Texas Bar for Outstanding Pro Bono Work

(Dallas) – Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is pleased to announce that Michelle Reed, a partner in the firm’s litigation practice, has been selected by the State Bar of Texas as the recipient of the 2013 Frank J. Scurlock Award for her commitment to providing legal services to the poor.
The award is named for Frank J. Scurlock, the first chair of the State Bar’s Legal Services to the Poor in Civil Matters Committee, and recognizes an individual attorney who has performed outstanding pro bono work. Among her recent pro bono matters, Reed has assisted in representing eight children in obtaining proper special education services and has also won asylum in three separate cases for refugees from Somalia and Burundi.
Reed is a member of the Texas Bar Association Pro Bono College and a former co-chair of the Best Practices Subcommittee of the Dallas Bar Association Pro Bono Committee. Her practice focuses on complex civil litigation matters, with an emphasis on representing public companies and their officers and directors in securities litigation, internal investigations, regulatory investigations and enforcement proceedings.
