Monte Jackel Quoted in Media on Appointment of Acting IRS Commissioner

Monte Jackel, senior counsel in the tax practice at Akin Gump, has been quoted in the media regarding President Trump’s appointment of David Kautter as Acting IRS Commissioner. Kautter currently serves as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Tax Policy.

For the Law360 article, “Trump Names David Kautter Acting IRS Commissioner,” Jackel said, it is “difficult to imagine that any human could do both jobs well,” but that Kautter is a “very skilled manager” who can delegate responsibly. He added that tax policy and tax administration “are two different things, and sometimes their goals can conflict. I assume that Dave will delegate well and work long hours.”

In the Tax Notes article “Tax Community Praises Kautter Pick as Acting IRS Chief,” Jackel said he believes Kautter will have to delegate to assistants who specialize in various fields of tax policy and administration. “Dave has both skills [in management and tax policy], and there are any number of people already in the Treasury and IRS who could do the specific delegated functions [for] him.”
