Nicholas Antonas, counsel in Akin Gump’s energy practice in London, has co-authored a chapter on decommissioning in Sweet & Maxwell’s book Oil and Gas Contracts – Principles and Practice, second edition.

Antonas’ chapter looks at the legal principles relevant to decommissioning common across jurisdictions and how joint ventures are governed accordingly.

Recently named by Euromoney as a Rising Star for energy, Antonas has significant experience in this emerging area, which is of particular concern and interest at a time of oil price weakness, when decommissioning obligations can be brought rapidly forward.  He has worked on decommissioning matters across the North Sea and in emerging markets for lenders and ad hoc committees of creditors in a number of high profile restructuring situations as well as for energy companies and decommissioning contractors.
