P. John Burke Named to THR’s Top 20 Hollywood Dealmakers

(Los Angeles) – The Hollywood Reporter has named Akin Gump entertainment partner P. John Burke to its list of Hollywood’s “Top 20 Dealmakers of 2018,” which features “[k]ey negotiators behind the year’s most game-changing deals.”
The article profile notes his work representing Lantern Capital in its $289 million purchase of The Weinstein Co. out of bankruptcy. Mr. Burke is quoted as saying that Lantern’s purchase preserves a source of independent film distribution and development in an environment in which streaming services are inflating prices. He added, “It is becoming increasingly difficult to produce independent films with budgets in excess of $10 million because of the difficulty in obtaining domestic theatrical distribution.”
