Peter Altman Quoted on Key Takeaway from Securities Docket Enforcement Conference

Akin Gump litigation partner Peter Altman, who is scheduled to speak next week at Securities Enforcement Forum West 2020, was featured in a Securities Docket video discussing “One Big Thing,” his key takeaway for this year’s conference that will bring together top professionals in the securities enforcement field.
Altman said the effect the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the amount of material nonpublic information presently in the U.S. securities markets is what stands out to him. He noted that on March 23, the Directors of the SEC’s Division of Enforcement issued a statement emphasizing the heightened risk of unlawful securities trading during this volatile time.
“Market participants need to show increased vigilance as a result when evaluating the content and source of information they receive before placing securities trades,” said Altman. “This is particularly important, given the fact that we are all dispersed in our work-from-home environments these days.”
