POLITICO’s “Morning Trade” has quoted international trade partner Kevin Wolf of Akin Gump in a story about whether the Trump administration will continue with former President Barack Obama’s efforts to overhaul the export control system.

The departments of State and Commerce, the article reports, have published notices seeking comment on recent revisions on three categories on the U.S. Munitions List and the corresponding Commerce Control List covering exports of explosives, protective equipment, and military and intelligence electronics.

Wolf, who helped design and lead the reform effort while serving in the Obama administration, believes publishing the notices is “a welcome sign.” He said, “It shows that the Trump administration is continuing the effort to enhance the export control system’s contribution to our national security by rationalizing, updating, and correcting the lists of controlled items.”
