The working relationships among the justices of the Supreme Court were the focus of an article in The National Law Journal in which Pratik Shah, co-head of Akin Gump’s Supreme Court and appellate practice, was quoted.

“How Do Supreme Court Justices Manage to Get Along?” looks at how the nine jurists manage to work together, despite the appearance of “sharp rhetoric and harsh words” between those on different sides of the Court’s rulings.

Shah, a former clerk to Justice Stephen Breyer who has argued more than a dozen cases before the Supreme Court, said the justices “are able to separate their legal opinions from the personal interactions.” Even after two very divisive rulings regarding healthcare and same-sex marriage, Shah, in anticipation of the final day of the term, added, “I don’t think you’ll see anything out of the norm.”
