Privacy & Cybersecurity Law Report Publishes Akin Gump Article on Possible Changes to HIPAA Privacy Regime

Privacy & Cybersecurity Law Report has published the article “Proposed Rule Would Make Far-Reaching Changes to HIPAA Privacy Regime,” written by Akin Gump senior counsel Jo-Ellyn Sakowitz Klein, counsel Daniel Graver, and associates Mallory Jones and Caroline Kessler.
The article, which originated as an Akin Gump client alert, discusses the HIPAA Privacy Proposed Rule, which “includes changes that reduce unnecessary administrative burdens and add clarity to the HIPAA Privacy Rule.” According to the authors, though, it also includes changes “that appear to complicate the health information ecosphere.”
The authors suggest that participants in the health industry “consider taking the opportunity to provide feedback on relevant provisions, offering support for those that are favorable as well as weighing in on those that seem problematic.” While the proposals are far-reaching, they note that they could have “a material impact on many entities’ operations.”
