Richard Hornshaw Named a City Year UK Bridge Builder Mentoring Award Winner
(London) – Akin Gump partner Richard Hornshaw has been named by City Year UK (CYUK) as a winner of its London Bridge Builder award.
Mr. Hornshaw, who leads the London disputes team, received his award today at a virtual City Year Graduation Ceremony.
The award recognizes those who devote time to mentoring CYUK’s young volunteers. CYUK recruits young people aged 18-26 to volunteer full-time in schools for a year to tackle educational disadvantage.
The Bridge Builder Mentoring Programme is designed to help support the volunteers’ leadership development and gives them the chance to interact with professionals, explore career development goals and plan for life after CYUK. The support they receive includes mock interviews, résumé workshops and assistance in deciding on volunteers’ next steps.
Nominating Mr. Hornshaw, one of his mentees said he should win the award “because he had been so helpful with my career development.” Nine other Akin Gump lawyers from the London office also supported the Bridge Builder programme in the past year.
Founded in 1988, CYUK is part of the AmeriCorps national service network, which partners with state schools in urban, high-poverty communities across the United States and internationally via CYUK and City Year South Africa to help students stay in school and graduate.
Previous Akin Gump winners of the award include financial regulatory counsel Joe Hewton and financial restructuring partner James Terry. (Click here and here to learn more.)
