Modern Healthcare has quoted Akin Gump health care and life sciences partner Robert Salcido in its article “Top 8 healthcare fraud cases related to COVID.” The article provides a synopsis of the nine COVID-19 healthcare fraud cases currently under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).

According to the article, “[d]ozens of healthcare workers, executives and medical business owners have faced charges or other consequences for their involvement in fraud schemes related to COVID-19 and abuse of programs designed to facilitate access to medical care during the pandemic.”

Salcido said that there will be an “inevitable” increase in lawsuits and instances of healthcare fraud as the DOJ’s investigations look further into institutions and smaller communities.
