Solar Industry has published the article “IRS Ruling Could Be A Huge Boost For Community Solar Investment,” written by David Burton and Richard Page, partner and associate, respectively, in Akin Gump’s tax practice.

The article discusses the implication of a recent IRS ruling, which concluded that an individual that owned an interest in a community solar project could claim tax credits related thereto. Previously, the residential credit was claimed primarily by homeowners who installed their own solar panels.

Burton and Page proceed to discuss the impact of the IRS’s moves and what it means for the community/shared solar energy industry, which they write is “likely to lead to the expansion of this market.”
