Stanley Brand Joins Akin Gump

(Washington, D.C.) – Stanley M. Brand, former general counsel of the U.S. House of Representatives and, since 1983, the principal owner of the litigation boutique Brand Law Group, has joined Akin Gump as senior counsel in its litigation practice in Washington, D.C., the firm announced today.

A fixture for nearly four decades in the Washington legal community and the national political and media landscapes, Mr. Brand maintains a practice focused on often-high-profile white collar, government ethics and campaign finance matters. His unique practice and breadth of experience have been described by former client George Stephanopoulos in his best-selling autobiography All Too Human: A Political Education as existing “at the intersection of politics, criminal law and communicating in the Washington echo chamber.”

“Stan is not only a phenomenal lawyer, but also immensely talented at navigating highly complex and sensitive public relations and political challenges,” said Anthony Pierce, partner in charge of Akin Gump’s Washington, D.C. office. “His background in public service, coupled with his tremendous skills honed over more than 30 years in private practice, makes him an ideal fit at Akin Gump, and I am thrilled that he is joining us.”

Drawing on his broad range of experience, Mr. Brand’s practice covers all levels of state and federal courts and numerous administrative agencies, with an emphasis on defending the rights of companies and individuals involved in government investigations. In addition, Mr. Brand has represented numerous candidates, political committees and campaign donors in enforcement, regulatory and judicial matters relating to federal and state campaign finance laws. Mr. Brand’s clients have included a broad range of individuals, corporations, elected and appointed federal officials, political committees and candidates.

“After many years spent successfully managing a boutique firm, I’m excited by the opportunity to join a firm with such a broad and deep platform as Akin Gump,” said Mr. Brand. “The depth of knowledge and experience offered by the firm presents an enormous benefit to my clients, and I look forward to introducing them to the fantastic team here.”
