Stephanie Webster Profiled as a Law360 Health Care MVP
Stephanie Webster, a partner in Akin Gump’s health care practice, was profiled by Law360 for being one of the publication’s 2013 Health Care MVPs.
Webster works closely with health systems and hospitals on payment and compliance issues, representing them in administrative proceedings and litigation. The article noted she “has scored a number of key successes for her clients as lead counsel over the last year,” including a victory on behalf of Allina Health Services in a fight over Medicare reimbursements to hospitals for care to low-income patients. In a separate case, Webster led a challenge to Medicare’s method of calculating payment rates for hospitals in Orlando, Florida, ultimately reaching a favorable settlement for the client.
Despite working in an area—Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement law—that Law360 mentions has been described as among “the most impenetrable texts within human experience,” the article notes Webster’s strength in being able to boil down complex issues. “The main thing I try to accomplish, whether I’m litigating cases or providing regulatory advice on Medicare payment issues that are pretty complicated, is to simplify things,” she states.
In discussing her practice, Webster said she feels she needs to “hold the government accountable when it pulls the rug out from the facilities that are trying to protect their rights to accurate payment.”
