Stephanie Webster Quoted on SCOTUS Ruling in Medicare Reimbursement Deadline Case
Akin Gump reimbursement practice partner Stephanie Webster was quoted in a Law360 article on the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Sebelius v. Auburn Regional Medical Center et al., in which the Court supported the Department of Health and Human Services position to limit extensions of the statutory 180-day deadline to three years, in limited circumstances.
Webster, formerly an attorney in the Office of General Counsel at HHS, said, “In light of the 2008 changes to the regulations governing Medicare reimbursement appeals, hospitals have had to be increasingly vigilant about identifying actual and possible payment errors and filing appeals to seek correction of those errors timely and properly. The Auburn decision makes those steps, including filing appeals within the standard 180 day window, all the more important.”
