The Hill Quotes Stanley Brand on House Hedge Fund Controversy
Akin Gump litigation senior counsel Stanley Brand was quoted by The Hill in its article “Critics pounce on hedge funds managed by Florida lawmaker” on questions raised regarding the propriety of a U.S. congressman, Alan Grayson (D-FL), managing three interconnected hedge funds.
The publication notes that both a conservative group and a Democratic supporter of Rep. Grayson’s primary opponent have lodged complaints with the Office of Congressional Ethics for what they claim are ethics rules violations related to his running the investment vehicle.
Brand, whose practice focuses on defending the rights of witnesses involved in government investigations, noted, “As a prudential matter, assuming this is legal and ethical, would it be a good idea? He’s in an area where there are complicated and overlapping interpretational rules that could bite him.”
