The Legal Intelligencer Names Michael McTigue a Pennsylvania Trailblazer

(Philadelphia) – Akin Gump litigation partner Michael McTigue has been named by The Legal Intelligencer to its inaugural list of Pennsylvania Trailblazers, which recognizes the lawyers who have made “significant marks on the practice, policy and technological advancement of their practice.”

Mr. McTigue is recognized for having created professional development programs for new associates that included frequent, structured and constructive feedback. He described it as necessary “to adapt to how they grew up and how they thought in order to recruit and retain the best talent.”

Before joining Akin Gump last year as part of a team handling class action defense and complex commercial litigation (click here to learn more), Mr. McTigue played a key role at his former firm in the recruitment, mentoring and development of young lawyers. At the same time, he trained other, more-senior lawyers to become better leaders. “Sometimes we don’t spend enough time thinking about how to manage people, manage teams, and help younger lawyers develop professionally,” he said.

Mr. McTigue noted that one reason he moved to Akin Gump was the firm’s commitment to developing its junior lawyers. He takes pride in watching them thrive, just as he does when he sees other firms adopt policies that help develop the careers of new lawyers. “A lot of the things we initiated, you see more and more firms do,” he observed.

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 1,000 lawyers and advisors in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
