Variety Names P. John Burke to Dealmakers Impact Report
(Los Angeles) – Akin Gump entertainment partner P. John Burke has been selected by Variety for inclusion in this year’s Dealmakers Impact Report—a list of the people behind the most important entertainment industry deals of the past 12 months.
Mr. Burke, whose practice focuses on media finance with an emphasis on motion picture transactions, was noted for his role in the firm’s representation of Lantern Capital in acquiring Weinstein Co. assets from bankruptcy, and CMC Holdings in its investment in Imagine Television content. He has also advised RatPac-Dune Entertainment, Shamrock Capital and various banks for commercial loan transactions.
Speaking of the recent spate of Hollywood insolvencies, Mr. Burke said it is, “a trend that will continue as the industry is disrupted in its transition from analog to digital.” He also believes that financiers are becoming more cautious in some regards, with the financial community focusing now on greater protections, higher transaction costs in some cases and the withdrawal of smaller institutions less willing to absorb occasional sour deals.
Earlier this year, Mr. Burke, along with entertainment practice head Christopher Spicer and fellow partners Marissa Román Griffith and Alissa Miller, were included in Variety’s Legal Impact Report, which spotlights the top attorneys in the entertainment business. (For more on that, click here.)
