Biography
  • Represents fund sponsors in relation to the establishment and ongoing operations of a range of private investment funds.
  • Represents sovereign wealth funds and institutional investors on private fund investments across a range of asset classes.
  • Counsels clients throughout Asia and the Middle East, particularly in Hong Kong, Singapore, India and the UAE.

Jordan focuses on representing private fund sponsors in matters concerning the formation, structuring and fundraising of a wide range of private equity and hedge funds, as well as customized investment solutions. He also routinely advises sovereign wealth funds and other institutional investors on their private fund investments.

Prior to joining Akin, Jordan served as a registered foreign lawyer in the investment funds group of Hong Kong’s largest independent law firm. There, he provided guidance on the structuring and establishment of offshore and onshore hedge funds, private equity funds, retail funds and other alternative investments, employing various Cayman and Hong Kong structures.

Representative Work
  • Advised a private equity investment firm headquartered in Singapore on the formation of its fourth fund.
  • Represented a hedge fund manager based in Hong Kong on multiple matters, including operational and liquidity concerns, along with related regulatory advice.
  • Advised fund managers and financial institutions from the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Hong Kong and the region with the establishment of various private open-ended and closed-ended funds.
  • Advised global asset managers on the structuring, establishment and regulatory approval of their Hong Kong retail funds, and provided guidance on scheme updates and regulatory issues.
  • Advised a leading India-focused distressed and special situations investment manager on the formation of its second fund.
  • Advised on the establishment of a new Abu Dhabi-based alternative investment firm with billions of dollars in initial assets under management.
  • Advised a new fund manager based in the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) on the formation of its first private equity investment fund.
  • Represented a financial institution based in Kuwait on the formation of a Shari’ah-compliant lease fund.
