NAACP Honors Washington Lawyer Mark MacDougall

(Washington, D.C.) – The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has honored Mark J. MacDougall, a partner in the litigation practice of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP in Washington, D.C., with its 2004 Foot Soldier in the Sands Award. The award was presented on July 12 at the NAACP’s 20th Annual Clarence M. Mitchell Jr. Memorial Lecture Luncheon in Philadelphia.
Presented annually, the NAACP’s Foot Soldier in the Sands Award is bestowed on those attorneys “who have gone above and beyond the call of duty on behalf of the Association and its civil rights agenda” on a pro bono basis. A litigator with extensive civil and criminal trial experience, Mr. MacDougall was recognized, along with Bill Nettles of Columbia, South Carolina, for his trial and appellate work on behalf of indigent defendants facing the death penalty.
