Biography
  • Financial restructuring trial attorney and litigator with significant experience in bankruptcy court, federal district court and state courts throughout the country.
  • Advises debtors, creditors, official committees, and other stakeholders in complex chapter 11 cases and in out-of-court reorganizations.
  • Investigates and resolves cryptocurrency disputes.

Nick is an experienced trial attorney and litigator who has advised debtors, creditors and committees through all the stages of financial restructuring litigation in some of the country’s largest corporate restructurings both in and out of court. He has significant experience in a variety of industries, including tech, health care, e-commerce, financial services, transportation and energy (both traditional and renewable). He has also litigated matters of first impression concerning cryptocurrency and is a pioneer in crafting legal solutions for his clients in this field, having led internal investigations with leading forensic investigators to identify and recover cryptocurrency for his clients. He was recently recognized in the 2024 edition of The Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch.

Nick received his J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and Public Interest Law Foundation honoree. After graduating, he clerked for Chief Judge Martin Glenn of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. Prior to joining Akin, he worked at the New York and Washington, D.C. offices of another global law firm.

  • Represented an ad hoc group of secured group of lenders in Avaya’s chapter 11 proceeding.
  • Represented Tri County Electric Co-Op Inc. in Brazos Electric Cooperative’s chapter 11 proceeding.
  • Represented the Official Committee of Opioid Claimants in Mallinckrodt plc’s chapter 11 proceeding.
  • Represented the first lien minority group of J.C. Penney Company Inc.
  • Represented an ad hoc group of secured term loan lenders of Travelport Worldwide Ltd. in connection with the company’s out-of-court recapitalization.
  • Representing the official committee of unsecured creditors of Sears Holdings Corporation in the iconic retailer’s highly publicized chapter 11 cases.
  • Represented FCA US LLC (Stellantis) in post-confirmation litigation as part of Chrysler’s historic chapter 11 bankruptcy.*
