Rubén H. Muñoz focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation. Mr. Muñoz’s multi-disciplinary educational background and professional experience dovetail to help clients protect and leverage their technological assets. He has represented companies in patent litigation involving technologies ranging from medical devices to computer software.

Prior to attending law school, Mr. Muñoz spent five years at Ford Motor Company’s Scientific Research Lab. While at Ford, he focused on the development of direct-injection gasoline engines. His work—geared primarily towards European luxury brands, such as Jaguar and Volvo—resulted in the invention of the “vortex-induced stratified-charge combustion system,” an innovation for which he holds a patent. He has published several articles in the area of particulate emissions and in 1998 won the Best Paper Award from the Central States Section of the Combustion Institute.

Mr. Muñoz has counseled and assisted clients in developing IP strategies around various clean technology inventions. In 2009, he co-created and authored a study titled “Cleantech Patent Forecast,” a publication that predicts patent trends in the major cleantech sectors. Mr. Muñoz has also represented pro bono clients in immigration court in Cancellation of Removal proceedings.

In 2007, Mr. Muñoz earned his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School along with a certificate in business and public policy from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He earned a M.S. in mechanical engineering in 1997 and a B.S. in chemical engineering in 1994 from Louisiana State University. He is fluent in Spanish.
