Named for firm founder Robert Strauss, the program continues his vision for and pursuit of racial, ethnic, gender, economic and cultural diversity. Scholarships are available at Akin Gump offices in Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C.
Qualified applicants should apply for the two-year program during the early winter of their 1L year. Scholars, like summer associates, are fully eligible for consideration for an offer of employment following graduation.
Applicants should excel academically and be able to demonstrate their commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion as well as Akin Gump’s core values: collegiality, commitment, excellence, integrity and intensity.
“Understanding all that is required to build out a successful career were not elements in my tool set as an aspiring first-generation professional. Many firms try to recruit diverse lawyers, but Akin’s Strauss scholarship program puts mentorship at the forefront.” Melqui Fernandez, University of Michigan Law School, 2021 - Akin Gump/Robert S. Strauss Diversity & Inclusion Scholar
