Summary

The European Union (EU) is seeking input from key stakeholders, including providers of general-purpose AI (GPAI), civil society organizations, industry, academia, and other relevant stakeholders, on codes of practice for GPAI. Article 56 of the EU AI Act requires the AI Office to develop codes of practice, particularly in relation to GPAI, which must be implemented by May 2, 2025. The process will involve four distinct working groups, overseen by chairpersons and vice-chairpersons appointed by the AI Office, aimed at gathering input from a wide spectrum of stakeholders. The final version of the code of practice is anticipated to be published in April 2025, serving as a guide for companies as harmonized standards are developed and adopted.

The AI Office extended the deadline for consultation to September 18, 2024. For more information, see Akin’s Data Dive post here.
