Summary

On September 21, 2023, the United States Copyright Office extended the comment period for its August 30 Notice of Inquiry (NOI) regarding its “study of the copyright law and policy issues raised by artificial intelligence,” which seeks factual information on the use of copyrighted works to train AI models, transparency and disclosure regarding the use of copyrighted works, the legal status of AI-generated outputs, and the treatment of AI outputs mimicking the personal attributes of human artists. Initial comments are now due on Monday, October 30, 2023, and reply comments are due by Wednesday, November 29, 2023.
