Summary

On August 10, 2023, the Federal Election Commission (FEC) accepted a petition filed by Public Citizen on July 13, 2023, to amend laws regarding the agency’s authority in forbidding misrepresentation in campaign advertisements created with AI. The announcement comes after the agency was stuck on a 3-3 vote last month when determining whether they had jurisdiction over the matter. The FEC has issued a Notification of Availability seeking comment on whether the Commission should issue a full rulemaking on the petition. The public comment period will close on October 16, 2023.
