Guidelines for the Development of a Comprehensive System of National Standards for the AI Industry (2024 Edition)

On July 2, 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission (CAC), the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the Standardization Administration of China (SAC) jointly issued the Guidelines for the Development of a Comprehensive System of National Standards for the AI Industry (2024 Edition). According to the guidelines, by 2026, China plans to formulate more than 50 new national and industry AI standards to enhance Chinese standards for AI industry and its sci-tech innovation level. The guidelines outline the key directions in the building of a standardization system in seven areas: basic common standards, basic support standards, key technology standards, intelligent product and service standards, standards for empowering new industrialization, industry application standards and safety/governance standards.
