House Energy and Commerce Committee Marks Up AI Accountability Bill

Summary
On July 27, 2023, the House Energy and Commerce (E&C) Committee approved the AI Accountability Act (H.R. 3369), which would direct the United States Department of Commerce to conduct a study on accountability measures for AI systems and, in the process, hold public meetings to consult with relevant stakeholders to solicit feedback. Within 18 months of enactment, the Commerce Department would be required to report on feedback received to the House E&C Committee and Senate Commerce Committee.
