Summary

On January 4, 2024, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that addressing AI risks will be one of two key themes of Italy’s one-year presidency of the Group of Seven (G7), which includes the U.S., Canada, Japan, Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Italy. Prime Minister Meloni noted that she was “hugely concerned about the impact [of AI] on the labour market,” where “we are faced with a revolution where [human] intellect is in danger of being replaced.” She also announced that Italy would hold a special G7 leaders’ summit before June 2024 on addressing these and other dangers posed by AI.
