Summary

On December 30, 2022, the Ministry of Commerce published a draft amendment to the Catalogs of Technologies Prohibited and Restricted from Export by China to seek public comments by January 28, 2023. The draft amendment revises the description of “restricted artificial intelligence interactive interface technology” from “artificial intelligence interactive interface technology (including speech recognition technology, microphone array technology, voice wake-up technology, interactive understanding technology, etc.)” to “artificial intelligence interactive interface technology for Chinese and minority languages.” Industry in China views this amendment as narrowing down the export restrictions on AI interactive interface technology, although the draft amendment may change before the final version is published.
