Akin has been recognized on The American Lawyer’s 2025 Pro Bono Scorecard, ranking 17th nationally on the list, which ranks law firms based on average pro bono hours per lawyer and the percentage of lawyers with at least 20 hours of pro bono work. In 2024, our lawyers spent an average of 88.2 hours on pro bono work, with 68% of lawyers having spent at least 20 hours.

In AmLaw’s Pro Bono Report, the publication highlighted the firm’s pro bono effort led by Washington, D.C. based partner Ryan Fayhee that resulted in the release of Ryan Corbett, a U.S. citizen working in Afghanistan who was unlawfully detained by the Taliban for nearly 900 days. Ryan was also noted for working with a group of Akin litigators and lobbyists to secure the release of 13 individuals affiliated with the Texas-based missionary organization Mountain Gateway, who had been held by the Nicaraguan government.
