The American Lawyer Features Akin Intellectual Property Team Jury Trial Win in Litigator of the Week
An Akin intellectual property team is recognized by The American Lawyer’s Litigation Daily in its Litigator of the Week series for a jury trial victory on behalf of Signature Plumbing Specialties in the Southern District of New York. The win marks the latest in what has thus far been a clean sweep defending against seven patent claims and two tort claims brought by Kohler Company, one of the largest fixture manufacturers in the world.
On January 13, 2026, the jury reached a unanimous verdict that Signature had proven its “prior sale” defense, less than 90 minutes after commencing deliberation. The Court then entered final judgment of invalidity, defeating the final remaining design patent claim. This victory comes after more than two years of litigation.
The Akin team was led by intellectual property partner Michael Kahn and included associates Megan Mahoney and Shivani Prakash and senior trial services specialist Frank Racanati.
