(Washington, D.C.) – Yale Law Women (YLW), the largest student organization at Yale Law School, has named Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP to its 2007 list of Top 10 Family-Friendly Firms. Akin Gump was ranked third among firms nationwide.

YLW Activism Co-Chair Katie Wilson-Milne stated, “This list is a way to celebrate those firms that have taken important steps toward helping attorneys have both a family and a successful career.” YLW Chair Jennifer Broxmeyer added, “We hope that the list’s release during the law firm recruiting season will encourage students and employers to take a careful look at policies that affect the lives of young lawyers.”

To create its list, YLW analyzed firms from Vault’s Top 100 Law Firms and Best of the Rest lists, using variables selected in a survey of Yale Law School alumni, who ranked a list of family-friendly law firm policies in order of importance. Factors determining the ranking included access to and use of maternity/paternity leave policies, emergency and on-site child care, and part- and flex-time work schedules; health and other benefits for same- and opposite-sex domestic partners; ratios of women partners and associates; and billable hours requirements.

R. Bruce McLean, Akin Gump’s chairman, stated, “We are very pleased that Yale Law Women has recognized our commitment to making Akin Gump a truly family-friendly firm. This is a tremendous accomplishment, and a tribute to our partners and professionals who have worked so hard to make it so.”
