Akin Gump’s Co-Hosting of U.S.-Cuba Anniversary Celebration Covered by Media

An event celebrating the upcoming anniversary of renewed bilateral relations between the United States and Cuba that Akin Gump co-hosted with educational exchange organization Cuba Educational Travel received coverage in several media outlets.
Bisnow, in its article “Akin Gump Co-Hosts Cuban Ambassador in DC,” covered the event, which was held at the Meridian International Center in Northwest D.C. and featured Akin Gump partner and Cuba policy initiative head Scott Parven and senior policy advisor Anya Landau French. Among the attendees noted by Bisnow were José Ramón Cabañas, Cuba’s ambassador to the United States; Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.); Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.); Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.); Alejandro Mayorkas, deputy secretary, Department of Homeland Security; Amb. Daniel Sepulveda, deputy assistant secretary and U.S. coordinator for international communications and information policy, Department of State; and Heather Higginbottom, deputy secretary for management and resources, Department of State.
Washington Diplomat, covering the event in its article “Dance performance marks one-year anniversary of US-Cuba relations,” focused on the performance that evening by the Cuban dance company Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba and quoted Landau French, who said, “I’ve worked on U.S. Cuba policy for most of the last 15 years, so this is quite a special evening for me.”
