In its article “Akin Gump, Clients Offer Joint Summer Internships for Diverse Law Students,” The American Lawyer featured Akin’s launch of its expanded Robert Strauss Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship program.

The Strauss D&I Scholarship program began in 2014 as a summer internship at Akin Gump and financial scholarship award for second-year law students. With the expansion, scholars will spend not only six weeks at one of five participating firm offices, but also four weeks in-house at a client firm’s legal department.

Additional information about the program expansion can be found in this press release.

In the Am Law story, firmwide hiring partner David Botter noted, “We were seeing a tremendous amount of our clients who were as committed to diversity and inclusion efforts as we were. We said, ‘Hey this is perfect, why don’t we make the first-year program a program where [students] can spend some time at our law firm but also work with some of our equally committed clients and get a really well rounded experience.’”
