Akin capital solutions team co-leader Ranesh Ramanathan is quoted by Bloomberg in an article titled, “Wineries and Whiskey Makers Tap Private Credit for Financing.” The article examines how alcohol distributors, including wineries, whiskey makers and distilleries, are turning to private credit for financing amid tariffs and a decline in drinking habits.

Ranesh tells Bloomberg that alcohol is “definitely at a point of inflection.” He continues saying, “tariffs are a big hit to them, and the margins are already pretty tight.”

He says that although sales have gone down as discretionary spending has gone down, “if you think back to Covid or 2008, the industry remained resilient throughout economic downturns.”
