For its article “Employment Suits Drop in Texas As Pandemic Drags On,” The Texas Lawbook quoted Akin Gump labor and employment partner Brian Patterson on what the publication characterizes as wage-and-hour and employment-discrimination lawsuits taking a “back burner” after an increase at the start of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Regarding the drop in employment-discrimination claims, Patterson discussed the fact that employees working remotely have fewer interactions with co-workers, managers and supervisors, with those interactions being primarily virtual. He added, “That decreased amount of in-person interaction leads to a decrease in the amount of claims related to interpersonal interactions, which is the basis for discrimination claims.”
