Akin Gump senior policy advisor Casey Christine Higgins spoke recently at the Migration Policy Institute’s 16th Annual Immigration Law and Policy Conference. She appeared on a panel titled “State of Play: Central to the Trump Administration’s Record, Immigration Looms as the Major 2020 Issue.”

With immigration looming as a major issue, the panel, comprising those with both political and policy backgrounds, explored the politics of immigration, the potential pitfalls for Republicans and Democrats, and the potential for any sort of détente between the two sides after the presidential election next year. The speakers also discussed other pressing challenges that may force those in Washington to take action.
