CQ Quotes Hunter Bates on Trump and Congress

Hunter Bates, recently arrived at Akin Gump’s public law and policy practice, was quoted by CQ for its article “What's in Store With Trump and a Republican Congress,” which discusses predictions as to how Donald Trump will govern and work with Capitol Hill.
Bates, who served as legal counsel and chief of staff to Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, said that Hill watchers are waiting for Trump to reveal whether he’ll work “more as a Republican or more as an independent.”
Regarding what the publication notes as the possibility that Democratic incumbents up for re-election in 2018 may work with GOP counterparts on legislation, Bates said, “We don’t know yet to what extent will they be part of a deal-making faction that could spur activity in 2017.”
