In its article “Anxiety north of the border as López Obrador set to assume Mexico’s presidency,” Houston Chronicle quoted Akin Gump cross-border transactions partner Dino Barajas on the possible impact of the upcoming inauguration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador as president of Mexico.

The article notes that there is anxiety as to whether López Obrador will undo market reforms launched by his predecessor and put the national government in greater control of the economy.

Barajas, whose practice includes project development and finance in Mexico and Central and South America, said, “With every new administration comes the promise of change and that means new programs and new opportunity for business and trade. [Businesses] that are able to be first movers and start building new bridges into the Mexican business community will have the biggest payoff.”
