Akin Gump partner Davina Garrod has been quoted in the IFLR article “Stop, Start: The success of China’s highly anticipated foreign investment law has been overshadowed.” The article looks back at the first five years of a new Chinese law meant to encourage foreign investment in China’s market.

Details of the law, the article says, were not disclosed until last November, making feedback difficult. In addition, trade tensions between Beijing and Washington and now the spread of the coronavirus have overshadowed the January 1 unveiling of additional aspects of it.

For her part, Garrod said, “Few clients have been moving into mainland China, due in part to the local authorities taking up considerable management time and costs.”
