Akin Gump senior policy advisor Casey Higgins participated in the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) podcast “This Week in Immigration” to discuss what the election of Joe Biden means for immigration policy.
Among the topics discussed were the future of migration at the southern U.S. border and what new immigration rules the outgoing Trump administration may still look to implement prior to leaving office.
Higgins, a former assistant to former House Speaker Paul Ryan and a currently a BPC Immigration Fellow, predicted there will be some changes in the Biden administration to Trump-era executive orders, such as the travel ban and asylum policies, and that there will also be other proactive actions taken. While Higgins said she expects there to be a push to take some action on the legislative side, ultimately, she sees “a shift away from comprehensive immigration reform.”
