The Hollywood Reporter, in an article reporting commentary at the opening panel of this year’s American Film Market finance conference, quoted Akin Gump entertainment and media practice head John Burke on film financing opportunities in the upcoming year.

Burke, who moderated the “Current Issues in Film Finance” panel, noted that what he and the practice are seeing is a big drop in deals for movies in the $20 million to $50 million budget range.  He noted that studios are making only big movies in pursuit of big returns and that studios are looking for films that lend themselves to franchising.
