Akin lobbying & public policy partner and former senior Trump administration trade official Kelly Ann Shaw speaks with the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, NPR’s “Up First” and Bloomberg Surveillance TV to provide insight into the G-7 Summit in Canada this week, including where the U.S. stands on trade deals.
The G-7 nations worked to come up with short, action-oriented leader statements on areas of common interest. Drawing on her role as U.S. lead negotiator at G-7 and G-20 summits during President Trump’s first term, Kelly Ann tells USA Today that this is a more pragmatic approach and gets the summit refocused on “talking about the most pressing issues of the day and trying to find a common ground and coordinated approach among some of the world's largest economies.”
Following a trade deal on auto parts, auto imports and aerospace between the U.S. and the U.K., Kelly Ann tells Bloomberg, “The U.K. is still very much front of the queue, ahead of any other government.”
