For its article “Feds Ground Russian Carrier's Planes Under Export Rules,” Law360 quoted Akin Gump international trade partner Kevin Wolf. The article discusses the U.S. Department of Commerce announcement that it would ground 100 commercial and private planes that have flown into Russia in recent weeks, violating export restrictions.

Wolf, who served as Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Administration, Bureau of Industry and Security, said enforcement of export controls sends a signal: “[Commerce's enforcement] is part of coordinated ally action to impose sanctions over things that are important to Putin and his oligarchs and this is a really effective way to do it; by shutting down not only the flight of aircraft but also providing support to them if they're owned by the Russian government.”
