Reuters has quoted Akin Gump international trade partner Kevin Wolf in the article “U.S. Commerce official resigns, viewed as moderating voice on China export issues.” The article reports on the resignation of Richard Ashooh, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Administration for the past three years.

Nominated by President Trump and confirmed by the Senate in August 2017, the article says Ashooh was the longest serving Senate-confirmed political appointee at the Commerce Department besides Secretary Wilbur Ross.

Wolf, a former Commerce official himself during the Obama administration, said Ashooh is “thoughtful and rational, neither an ideologue nor a pushover. He really has taken on the role of working through the regs and trying to administer the system properly.”
